Tui Na Massage
Healing touch can be profound and what better way to have this experience but through massage. Tui Na (pronounced twee-nah) is Chinese massage that has been practiced alongside acupuncture and herbal medicine to further enhance treatments. By opening the body's channels, the flow of Qi and blood circulation is improved, allowing the body to realign and heal. The kneading and pressing of our muscles is much like a sponge full of dirty water that is squeezed out and fresh, clean water brought into the sponge as it is released. Our blood in the muscles are refreshed and places of stagnation are eliminated, returning the proper flow of Qi and blood. While we are growing and experiencing different traumas, we develop patterns of holding our bodies causing Qi and blood to stagnate. Most of the time we are unconscious of the holding behavior until discomfort or illness have appeared. As well as being incorporated into an acupuncture treatment, Tui Na massage can be used singly as a main therapeutic technique to address many complaints. Like most forms of bodywork, Tui Na massage can be relaxing or invigorating, sometimes both. This massage follows the same treatment principles and strategies to create change, alleviate pain and improve health as other modalities in Chinese medicine like acupuncture and herbal therapy.
